Dr. Gonzalo Maturana
Director of StrategyDr. Maturana sits on Innealta Capital’s investment committee. In this capacity, he contributes to portfolio-design research and the enhancement of the quantitative investment framework, which underpins all of Innealta’s investment strategies. He also participates in the monitoring of the firm’s various investment strategies, directly collaborating with the portfolio-management team to ensure the underlying risk metrics are in accordance with each strategy’s mandate. Dr. Maturana also serves as director on Innealta Capital, LLC’s corporate board of managers.
Dr. Maturana is Associate Professor of Finance at the Goizueta Business School at Emory University. He is an expert in the field of securitization and its impacts on capital markets. More specifically, his research examines securitization, misreporting, and fraud, especially in the context of the major role they played in the financial crisis of 2008. His work has been published in leading academic journals, e.g., Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). Among his research awards are the Michael J. Brennan Award for best paper in The Review of Financial Studies in 2017 and the Rising Scholar Award for best paper by a young researcher in The Review of Financial Studies in 2020.
Aside from his academic career, Dr. Maturana has worked in the industry as portfolio manager, strategy analyst, and investment consultant. He has focused on global equity portfolios, developing several strategic beta strategies.
Dr. Maturana received his Ph.D. in Finance from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. He also holds an M.A. in Applied Economics and a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Chile, where he graduated with highest honors.
